Puff Pastry Tree Skewers
We've teamed up with our friends at Nutella to bring you these delicious Puff Pastry Tree Skewers!

Ingredients

Pastry

Jam - this recipe will make approx 1 cup of jam

  • 2 cups fresh or frozen cherries
  • 1 cup would be 150g of cherries
  • ½ cup CSR White Sugar
  • 1 tbsp fresh lemon juice
  • Pinch of salt - approx ⅓ of a teaspoon

Method

  1. Make cherry jam ahead of time so it is cool. In a large skillet pan, combine cherries (make sure they are pitted), sugar, lemon juice and salt. Cook over high heat, stirring constantly, until sugar dissolves and mixture boils. Next, reduce to a rapid simmer, stirring occasionally, until mixture thickens, this should take approx 12 to 15 minutes. Once thickened, using a fine-mesh sieve, strain the jam into an airtight container, pressing on solids. Discard solids. Stir to get a smooth jam. Let cool completely then cover and refrigerate. Jam will last for 1 month in the fridge.
  2. Preheat oven to 200°C/180°C fan-forced. Thaw 1 sheet of puff pastry whilst you line a large baking tray with baking paper.
  3. Lay out one sheet of thawed puff pastry, spread over a layer of cherry jam, ensuring that you reach 3 edges but not the far right, this will be reserved for your stars. Be careful not to use too much jam as it may start leaking out the sides.
  4. Lay the second sheet of puff pastry on top of the jam. Using a sharp knife (or pizza wheel), cut the pastry sandwich into 2cm strips.
  5. Fold the puff pastry accordion style, start with a larger base and make it smaller towards the top to create a christmas tree shape. Set aside one strip for your star topper. Using a small star cookie cutter, cut out your star. (it’s best to keep this pastry plain, not with jam).
  6. Push a skewer or cake pop through the pastry to secure the tree and star together. Be careful not to squish your layers.
  7. Place the trees on to your baking tray. Brush lightly with egg wash. Bake for 15-20 minutes until golden brown and puffed.
  8. Dust with icing sugar to create a snow look and drizzle 15g of Nutella on top
